Have you been longing for a holiday home in Italy? Just deciding in which region you would like to have it can be quite difficult, I have noticed. There are so many beautiful places, but when do you know for sure that you have made the right choice?
Feel the connection!
Open door? It may seem obvious, but do you act on it? After some wandering, I found my connection in the south of the region Le Marche, in the province of Ascoli Piceno.
Which boxes to tick?
I don’t know if you have it too, but for me vineyards, flowering oleanders and old olive trees are part and parcel of the Italian feeling. I think I read something about Le Marche at the time, which made me focus my search on this region.
During that first search, some 16 years ago, my criteria were quite different than they are now. A busy job with frequent traffic jams determined my search for a house in the countryside to relax and enjoy La Dolce Vita during holidays.
However, for several years now I have been enjoying La Dolce Vita from my townhouse in Montefiore dell’Aso. Yes, the countryside has been traded for a historic hilltop borgo. The holiday home has been exchanged for a permanent home all year round in need of being more part of the community again. It was like coming home.
The ideal setting for a relaxed lifestyle
The friendly landscape alternates with rugged hills carved by water and wind, with both the sea and the mountains a short distance away. Montefiore dell’Aso has an ideal location from which to explore the area.
From my house I now walk to the bar and the shops and on the way I meet fellow Montefiorani and have a chat; all very relaxed. Love the life in this historic town centre; it’s my connection.
But I admit, every now and then I also need to feel the big city again. Then I prefer to go to Ascoli Piceno with all its history, art, culture, and lovely terraces. This city has so much history that you can feel it in every square and street corner.
Heart & Mind
Or is it heart OR mind? No, that doesn’t work for me, then I lack the balance I need. Life should also remain a little practical.
There is so much beauty around you in these kinds of villages, but you also see the struggle to
remain attractive as a place to live. In Montefiore dell’Aso, too, young people have left over the years to study or look for work, and the elderly have fallen away. Fortunately, Montefiore dell’Aso has a strong community spirit and a very active social life, making it a lively village.
The idea of contributing to the preservation of the historic centre and the quality of life grew stronger over time and so Tesori-Italy was born, with the Piceno ring for me as its obvious mark.
The Piceno ring is an ancient regional symbol and, although its true meaning has still not been established with certainty, according to most researchers it represents the cyclical nature of life and fertility.
For Tesori-Italy, the Piceno ring symbolises the connection between us as friends, between the co-owners in our projects, between travellers and the local culture, and for us it also symbolises the sun.
What will it be?
No, you don’t have to answer right away, but I hope to have planted a small seed that will make you think about the option of a holiday home in a historic centre. Village life has so much to offer.
If you like the idea, have a look at our project CASA GARIBALDINO. Who knows, you might find your connection with this townhouse in beautiful Montefiore dell’Aso.
